Biography
Kyle Glasgow is a clarinetist, teacher, producer, and repair technician whose artistry is as multifaceted as his musicianship. Based in New York City and the DMV area, Kyle has emerged as a bold, genre-blurring performer whose work pulses with energy, sincerity, and connection. His performances have captivated audiences across the United States and throughout Belgium, France, Spain, and Austria. At the heart of his work is a simple but radical goal: to combat loneliness through music, to break down classical music’s highbrow barriers, and to connect with people from all walks of life—intimately, powerfully, and unapologetically.
In the past year, Kyle has garnered growing acclaim for his electrifying performances, including a riveting turn as soloist with orchestra in Scott McAllister’s X Concerto and a haunting portrayal of “Khannan” in Ofer Ben-Amots’s opera The Dybbuk, Between Two Worlds. His performances are known for their kinetic spirit and fearless presence—equal parts technical command and emotional honesty.
A passionate advocate for new music, Kyle is currently founding a clarinet commissioning consortium with the goal of expanding the instrument’s repertoire through ambitious, cross-genre collaborations. He has premiered numerous works, including CopyCopyCatCat, a clarinet-cello duet written for him by acclaimed cellist/composer Clancy Newman. Kyle continues to champion emerging voices and works to bring fresh, forward-thinking sounds to life.
"Spectacular and astounding! The combination of his rich clarinet sound, incredible virtuosity, deep musical understanding, and tremendous dramatic talent made him the perfect cast for this role”
Ofer Ben-Amots
Composer of “The Dybbuk, Between Two Worlds”
Kyle is a founding member of the nationally award-winning IGNIS wind quintet, an ensemble dedicated to 21st-century and newly commissioned works—and a meaningful cornerstone of his chamber music career. Also, Kyle's artistic focus has expanded in recent years to include a growing slate of solo and cross-disciplinary collaborations. He works closely with composers and chamber ensembles alike, developing new repertoire and exploring fresh musical possibilities through partnerships that span styles, traditions, and instrumentations. He is currently preparing a new collaboration with the Orange Road String Quartet, the Cuker and Stern Graduate String Quartet in residence at the Mannes School of Music.
In addition to performance, Kyle brings a multifaceted skill set to his career: he is a dedicated private teacher, experienced instrument repair technician, reedmaker, conductor, and audio producer. Most recently, he produced Vignettes, an album by Robert DiLutis spotlighting underrepresented works by Black composers. His versatility extends across styles—whether laying down a clarinet line for a klezmer band, riffing in a polka group, or experimenting with electroacoustic techniques in the studio. He is currently preparing a number of upcoming releases, including both classical recordings and an original EP of pop music, fully self-written and produced.
He holds degrees in clarinet performance from the University of Maryland (B.M. and M.M.), where he studied under Professor Robert DiLutis, and is currently pursuing a Professional Studies Diploma at the Mannes School of Music under David Krakauer. His other mentors include David Drosinos, Sara Reese, Dr. D Ray McClellan, and Jo-Ann Sternberg.
Kyle Glasgow plays music to reach people where they are. To surprise them. To stir something. And, above all, to remind them that they’re not alone.
